8Bit Brewery
A friend and I started brewing beer after graduating university in 2000. I came up with the name 8-Bit Brewery to combine my college passions of old tech and getting drunk. At the height of the endeavor we were brewing 80 gallon batches, running 3 fermenters at a time. We never figured out how to turn a profit, but it was a good time and I learned a lot about beer. It afforded me a chance to express my creativity through sharing beer at gallery openings and designing beer labels. My partner bought out my share, and he used the equipment to teach brewing classes.

As a side note, I had registered the domain name 8bitbrewery.com. Many years after I had given up this project, a brew pub called 8 Bit Brewing contacted me and I sold them the domain. I ostensibly changed the name of my brewing efforts to Nommesen Beer. I took a trip out to the brewpub to sell the domain and they fed me a free burger (great food!), a couple of beers, and a growler to take home. They have old-school video games for you to play at the brewery and use the byline “Beer with byte.” I was happy to see that though I couldn’t make it happen, it was a potentially a good idea. I wish them luck and recommend you check them out if you find yourself in Murietta California.
