Floorspace Gallery
From June 1997 to April 1998, I co-owned and curated a gallery at 1700 Market Street in San Francisco. We lost our lease in April 1998. The space had three names in succession: first "atelier 1700," then "Nommesen, Soernsen, Steinbock Gallery" (after its three owners), and finally "Floorspace."
The shows I curated there were:
- April 1998 - ID: four performances addressing women's issues related to identity.
- April 1998 - Repeat Offender: the San Francisco State CIA department's annual show.
- February 1998 - Floorspace: a solo exhibition of Andrew Soernsen's paintings.
- October 1997 - Poems on the Floorspace_: an exhibition of my large-scale photocopies on paper and poems scattered across the floor, featuring people dear to me.
- June 1997 - Collage: mixed media work by 23 artists.
We hosted many shows by local artists, including ourselves, during that time. The space also doubled as my studio, where I produced much of the work for my Wallpaper series and several conceptual pieces.
