Kinitarkan Gigabit Ethernet
Starting 2026
I am the angel investor in a fiber-to-the-home broadband network being developed for Kinatarkan Island (Guintacan), in Santa Fe, Cebu. As of this writing (August 25, 2026) five homes are connected to the network. I am currently on Kinatarkan overseeing the operation and working in a leadership role as the network moves from initial deployment toward broader residential service.
The project is designed to provide reliable, affordable fixed internet to an island of approximately 8,600 residents, where households have historically depended primarily on mobile data, an unreliable local provider, or higher-cost satellite service.
The network uses an existing island datacenter, antenna tower, core servers, and related infrastructure, with a 16.3 km microwave backhaul connecting Kinatarkan to the Cebu mainland. From the island landing station, GPON fiber distributes service to homes across the three barangays. The initial phase is designed for 250 households, with the existing OLT providing capacity to scale to approximately 2,048 subscribers as demand develops.
My involvement extends beyond the financial investment. I am currently overseeing the operation on the island and participating in the project's day-to-day development and strategic direction. The immediate objective is to establish reliable fixed connectivity for Kinatarkan, build on the five homes already connected, and expand the network as adoption grows.
