eBugs
eBugs are interactive insect sculptures made from reclaimed electronic components. I combine the visual language of natural forms with the materials and technology of electronics, treating circuit components as both functional objects and sculptural elements.
I developed eBugs with my engineering partner, Jason, in Guangzhou, China. Jason designed the custom circuit board that gives each eBug its interactive functions. Each eBug uses the same core circuit design, programmed with the sound of a different insect and paired with distinct components and LED colors.
The work brings together sculpture, electronics, engineering, and natural history. It draws attention to the physical qualities of electronic components that are normally hidden inside machines, while giving them a new context as handmade objects.
eBugs have been exhibited in galleries and are available through my Etsy shop, with custom works also produced on commission.
