Uncle Traveling Torrey
2019 to 2020
At the beginning of COVID, I was living in China. I fled to South Africa when the virus was still considered small and deadly, and the city of Wuhan appeared to be the only epicenter. The goal was to see how many African countries I could visit before I the virus died down and I could return to China.
I managed to visit three African countries before an eight-month lockdown began. During that time, I experimented with TikTok, which was still a relatively new app. I created a travel log called Uncle Traveling Torrey. It became more of a video diary about lockdown in a foreign country.
My TikTok currently has 200 followers, 3,055 likes, and one video reached 26.7K views. I was later locked out of the account because I lost the phone and number I was using and cannot regain access, but the account remains active.
