Hackerspaces
2018
Hackerspaces are community-run places where anyone can learn to make something. They are spaces where an ordinary, curious person can grow to be extraordinary.
In 2018, I went on a Hacker Trip to China. The group was organized by Mitch Altman and traveled around China from 2009 to 2019. We visited schools, hackerspaces, electronics markets, cultural sites, and factories.
I recorded interviews with fellow travelers and people we met along the way. My intent was to tell the stories of hackers: people who acted on their curiosity and changed the world.
I never produced the podcasts from that material. However, I did spend a month as a hacker in residence at SteamHead with the intention of producing them.
